Commentary on Poem 3

Reflecting on:

-the theme that you are exploring in the poem.

The theme that i was exploring in the poem, is the things that is related to us. related to we students.
adeline is a 14 year old girl. she had stress like us too, but she can't take it longer.
she wants to end the stress and she don't want to meet her parents at home,when they recieve her english paper, so she went to attempt suicide.which is a very wrong choice to be done.
she was too harsh on her choices. she could choose another option. but, she chose to attempt suicde.
just because her teacher refuses to give 1 mark to her, just 1 mark less, it marks the end of her life.

-how you developed the theme in ur poem.

i try to think of all the difficulties adeline faced. she had been having stress the whole time once she was promoted to secondary 2. Her parents had been telling her to study hard, in order not to disappoint them. adeline is a good girl, she doesn't want her parents to be disappointed. So i wrote a poem, about all her stress why did she attempt suicide, what causes her to attempt suicide.

-the effect/s that you would like to achieve in the poem to impact ur readers and how you went about doing it.

i would like them to know how to able to cope their stress, don't always choose the way that u think that it could end the whole thing, which is attempting suicide, but the truth is it doesn't end everything.

humans must be open-minded

sometimes, kind.

or, learn to understand.

but, sometimes, we, humans, can't seem to do one of it.

Adeline Ng Ai Choo

a 14-year-old student

a student that wants to pass her english paper

her teacher refuses to give her one more mark.

and that girl, decided to

commit suicide.

she plunges twelve storeys to her death

body was found at the foot of a block of flats

in Tao Payoh

soon, news reached island-wide.

the teacher who marked her paper

wrote a letter to the press

saying

adeline went and look for the teacher

asking for one more mark

the teacher refuses to.

as teachers can't practically give additional marks

even though its just a mark.

it will make examinations a farce.

adeline felt depressed.

she feels

that she need to pass the english paper

to make her parents proud.

at least a pass. but the teacher refuses to.

she was scared

as she knew her parents will be disappointed

she was scared to go home..

so in the end,

she decides to attempt suicide..

which is a wrong choice.

I work in the day and in the night

All I ever wished for was a stable life and a steady income to feed my family

But everyone ignored my existence and feelings

My cries were unheard, my feelings were unknown

I slogged like a bull but all I get is a little pay

I scrimp and save and tolerated those insults

What do I get in return? Nothing at all…

Life seemed so dull and meaningless

There's no aim in life

I’ve got no determination to move on

I’m looked upon as a pest that gets in others’ way

People never thought that without us nice furnished buildings would not exist

I don’t even have the time to take a break

I'm like a busy bee that's being “entertained” daily

By the time I reach home, it would have been midnight

After a nice shower, I go into bed for a so called good night sleep
But just four hours later and there I am getting ready for work again…

Construction worker

I am a construction worker

waking up at 4am everyday, including the weekends.

i eat 2 pieces of bread and rush to work with the other workers.

once we reached the site, we had to quickly start work.
in order not to get scolded by our boss.
we had to tolerate all the scolding even though we did nothing wrong
in order to keep our job

we had no time to chat, all we do all day long, is to work and work.

we had only 15 minutes of lunch time, no time to chat.

we can't chat while we are working, or else, we would get scolded by our supervisor.

i had to tolerate all the disgusted stares that were given to me

i had to tolerate all the sarcastic remarks that were said to me.

i had to tolerate all these nonsense, for the sake of my family.

i had to pay the school fees for my children's education. i had to support the family.

i thought of quitting this job, but i can't

i had to think about my family.
